Hyphenation

If a prefix means two vowels will be next to each other, add a hyphen. If in doubt, check the spelling in a dictionary.

CORRECT
INCORRECT
rebrand
e-mail
co-author
re-brand

You can also hyphenate compound adjectives. This is when two or more words are used together to describe a noun. But you don’t hyphenate when those words come after the noun.

CORRECT
INCORRECT
well-known economist
the economist is well-known
the economist is well known
